Pros and Cons LCD TVs
CRT Televisions were once the
dominant model TV used by consumers until the advent of the LCD. The LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) Television is
an electronic device that uses LCD technology to display images that originate from various media
sources. They operate by selectively
filtering white light to produce various colors of varying intensity.
Today, LCD Televisions are
quickly becoming the main method to view television programs and are quickly replacing older forms of television
as well as newer types. Plasma
Televisions are one such example of newer types of TVs. They function by using gases to produce an image in the
same way fluorescent bulbs produce light.
There are many pros and cons to owning an LCD television over other technologies.
Pros
-
LCD Television has a much longer
life when compared to all other forms of television. They don’t overheat because they use LCD
Technology and not florescence or a cathode ray tube. Under normal operating conditions, you can watch
an average of 60, 000 hours of TV before the display burns out.
-
They offer endless possibilities when it comes to placing them around the house. They can be put on a
stand, mounted on a wall or even on the ceiling. And, if you are feeling adventurous you can motorize
your setup and have it store itself away under your bed when not in use.
-
These LCD TV’s can, in most cases,
be hooked up to a computer and serve a dual purpose; both as a computer monitor and a TV set. This
enables you to save space and money by buying one piece of equipment.
Cons
-
Screen sizes normally max out at
around 50”. Plasma Televisions generally don’t have this problem and can go much larger in comparison.
The previously discussed 37” LCD TV
fits into the LCD sweet spot.
Some additional features of
LCD Televisions include USB ports for easy handling of media such as music playlists and photo albums. They also
offer various viewing modes depending on what you are watching of what effect you wish to enjoy your show in;
for example you can watch that show you have been dying to see in theatre mode or play your favorite game in
game mode. These modes basically change the lighting effects of the screen to better enhance your viewing
pleasure.
